About the BellaOnline Geriatrics Editor
Patricia Villani, MPA, PhD
Dr. Villani’s career encompasses leadership experiences in federal, academic and business venues.
While working with the Department of Health and Human Services for 21.5 years, Dr. Villani was employed primarily with the U.S. Public Health Service, ending her federal career at the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health, leaving to attend graduate school.
After receiving her PhD, she spent 15 years at the George Washington University,11 years as the Executive Director of the Washington, DC Area Geriatric Education Center Consortium at the GWU Medical Center. The Consortium is a regional geriatrics collaborative that made a national impact with its innovative continuing education training curricula.
Dr. Villani began her consulting firm, Gerontology for Education and Research Opportunities (GERO), Inc. in 1990. Throughout the years, she completed numerous consulting contracts with government, private and non-profit organizations.
She now writes columns for local newspapers and magazines on aging and quality of life and also volunteers with local non-profit organizations in her hometown.
EDUCATION: PhD in Human Rehabilitation from the Univ. of Northern Colorado on a full fellowship, along with a Graduate Certificate in Gerontology. Her other degrees are from Harvard University’s Kennedy School (MPA – also a full fellowship) and Rutgers University in Newark (BA).
